Loud Alarm

My Hp pavilion laptop makes a loud alarm like noise when booting up.?

I try hitting the enter key and it finally boots up. Some of the function keys are not working. Think it may be battery pack but not sure?

Your battery would not cause some of the function keys to cease working, but here is a simple way to find out for yourself. Remove the battery. That's right. I know it seems like.. wow... can you really do that? But it is true. You can remove the battery, leave the laptop plugged in, hit the power button, and start it like you always would. The laptop should fire up normally... just without the battery. Then, you can see if the problems are indeed related to the battery or not.

It is highly unusual (but not unheard of) for the laptop to produce audible alarms without also displaying a message or error on the screen. One of the examples of a situation where a computer *would* sound an alarm without an error message, would be issues with the system RAM. However, just hitting the enter key would not clear this. Now... if you were having an issue, AND there was an error message on the screen that stated you must hit Enter or Any Key to proceed... your posting this error message would be of great importance.

What function keys are not working? This is important to know.

Actually, EVERY detail, from every problem you are having, to the EXACT model of Pavilion laptop you have, is important. No, if your laptop screen says DV6000 or something similar down in the lower right corner, you do not have DV6000 laptop. You must turn the laptop over, and look for the product tag on the bottom. It is White, it is about 2 inches long, and about an inch high. On the bottom row of information printed on it, to the right, will be the actual product number... it might say something like dv2410us or dv9780nr or what have you. However, the exact product number will help greatly in tracking down whether or not this is an issue known to HP or not.

Otherwise, if you cannot provide any further details, simply call up HP, and arrange to have it sipped back to them for repair.
